Golf Day – June

Posted in Golf with tags , , , , on May 31, 2009 by drakkhart

golf Golf Day June approaches. It is our 1st interstate trip and our 1st 18 hole round.

After Golf Day May, the committee sat down to discuss where and when this event would take place. The decision has been made…

Yass Golf Club
20th – 21st June weekend.

Why Yass? Because Big Bruce is expecting a new Lil’ Bruce and can’t travel to far away from home.
Ideally I would like us to get 2 rounds in; Drive out Saturday morning early, play 18 holes, hit pub, stay in cheap hotel, Sunday morning play 9-18 hole 3 club challenge, then head home.

I am currently trying get some golf/accommodation deals going but I need to know the numbers of who would be willing to stay the evening (means more beer drinking).
So let me know.

One Week To Go!

Posted in Golf with tags , , on January 4, 2009 by drakkhart

golfJust one week to go until Golf Day 2009 begins!
So far I have 7 confirmed. Which is a great start to the year.
I am making the bookings today so if there are people out there still pondering it, need to know asap if you want in.
Since the first 4 rounds are only 9 holes, this would be used to get handicaps worked out. This means if you miss the first 4 rounds and then join us later, you would play with a handicap of 0 for the rest of the year…well we would be kind and reassess after 4 rounds.
Remember 9am start this coming Sunday. Try not to be late =)

FYI: Cost for 9 holes are – Members $20 Non Members $22

Movember

Posted in Movember, Random with tags , , , , , , , on October 10, 2008 by drakkhart

It is getting close to that time of the year. Movember is almost upon us.
For people who don’t know what Movember is;

Movember (the month formerly known as November) is an annual charity event held during November. At the start of Movember guys register with a clean shaven face. The Movember participants, known as Mo Bros, have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their Mo, raising money along the way to benefit men’s health – specifically prostate cancer and male depression.

I again will be partaking in this fundraiser (think its the 3rd year for me) and I hope you can spare some change to this event. So far I have stayed clean shaven for the last two months in anticipation for Movember and I will try to get pics up as the month progresses.

“How do I donate?” I hear you say.
Easy – go HERE. Then go to individual and enter my registeration code 1380601
. You can follow my progress here as well.

Easy. You can donate via credit card or paypal through the website.
You can also register yourself and challenge yourself to grow a Mo for charity (I’m looking at you Frogspoon)

This a great cause and a lot of fun. So take part, whether it be growing a mo or donating to a mo bro.

Breast Cancer Awarness + Mt Franklin

Posted in Random with tags , , , , on October 10, 2008 by drakkhart

Now breast cancer awareness is very important. Breast cancer does take a lot of lives and with earlier detection, that number can be reduced. There are many many campaigns out their spreading the good word to all women about the risks and what they should do and so on.
But this would be my favourite advert I have seen:

On cancer awarness, I understand this month is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Great, fabulous. With this combined with everything that is pink, how could anyone not get the message.
My question is, why doesn’t prostate cancer get the same amount or Awareness campaigns as breast cancer does? Yes we have Movember, of which I will be a participant again, but that seems to be all Prostate Cancer gets as an awareness campaign.
Now I realise brown ribbons or brown cricket bat handles (just saw that blue is the colour used – edit) would not be that attractive but I would have thought, men being men, there would need to be a stronger campaign. Men in general do not look for early signs of being unwell and usually only get to a doctor when missing a limb.
I just feel their should be a stronger push to get blokes aware of this and make sure everyone plays a part in Movember..

As many men die from prostate cancer as women die from breast cancer but… a national survey by PCFA in 2002 showed that while 78% of women felt well informed about breast cancer – only 52% of men felt informed about prostate cancer
