Cousins becomes a Tiger
That is correct.
Ben Cousins, Brownlow winner and ex West Coast (and ex drug addict), has joined the ranks of Richmond as of today’s AFL Draft.
But what does this mean?
Well I personally think it is a great move by Richmond. Ben Cousin’s skills and experience will be a great lift to the Tiger’s midfield……as long as Cousins stays clean.
A self confessed drug addict playing for any team was always going to be tough to convince the sponsors, that it is a good idea and good for the team.
Good luck to Ben, I hope he does stay clean as he was always a great player to watch on the field and well done to the Tigers for taking a stand and picking him up.
I heard that Dean Laidley was keen to approach Cousins, would have been nice with Shannon Grant’s retirement, but Mazda (major sponsor) shut it down.

Congratulations to Richmond for getting Ben Cousins. I heard that Kevin Sheedy was publicly advocating Cousins at a Richmond function for Tom Hafey in late November.
good luck to Cousins and the Tigers in 2009

Mazda must prefer their own methods of players getting that ‘Zoom Zoom’ feeling!

Nissan are the new sponsors of the Tigers. Mazda’s loss (Cousins) is Nissan’s gain?

Nissan are the secondary (shorts) sponsor.
Dick Smith are the main (jumper) sponsor.

Collingwood, St Kilda and Brisbane were all considering Cousins and all knocked him back before Richmond got him.
