Halo 3 – the most over-rated game ever

The biggest awaited title across any format for 2007. The 2nd biggest preorders I have ever seen (beaten by WOW Burning Crusade)and the most hyped game EVER.

And in my humble opinion, it was ok. Not great and not satisfactory to complete a trilogy.

The fact that if you read any review of Halo 3, they start with the multiplayer section already sets the game as weak for a single player game. Gametrailers.com gave it Game of the Year and the 1st thing they rave about is the multiplayer part.
Sorry. For me a trilogy ender should have its main focus on the single player game. To be a GoTY it has to be a great imersive story to be play single or co-op. To give a game that 80% of the goodness of the game, is the online capabilities I just don’t understand how it could be considered to be the GoTY.

This is not a review so all you Halo freaks out there calm down.
What I am saying, with titles like Mass Effect, Bioshock and even Call of Duty 4 (short single player but good multiplayer without the expectation like Halo), Halo 3 should never have been considered the Best Game of 2007. Definitely the biggest money maker with its 3 formats (Standard, Limited and Legendary), its Halo controllers, xbox live points and subscription as well as its novels, action figures etc.
Definitely the biggest know title on X360 but playability and immersion, no way near the best title.

I hate games that come out and do not put in the effort to make a good strong single player storylines, they depend on the online market and Halo 3 definately fell into this category.
If you are going to make a console game, make one with great playability and a great story 1st, then look at co-op options 2nd and then online options as a final section.
Maybe its just me but consoles are for getting your mates over to the house and crack open a case of beer.
